Website Design – Don’t forget about your Calls To Action

call to action - website design importance

If you’re not using Calls to Action (CTAs) on your website, then you’re likely missing a huge opportunity to increase leads, sales, and conversions. Blending a call to action into your website design and layout is one of the most important elements of any successful website, yet so many businesses overlook its importance. Or worse still, put the calls to action in the wrong place annoying their site visitors.

As business owners, we need people to visit our website. Many spend thousands on Google Ads or SEO to drive the search traffic to their website. But then what? Without a clear call to action, many site visitors will simply click off to another website, with the business owner never knowing they have just lost a sales lead or a sale in general.

In a nutshell, calls to action are vital to the success of your website and sales pipeline.

Ok, so what is a call to action?

A call to action is simply a way to encourage your website visitors to take a specific action. This could be anything from contacting you regarding your services, buying a product if it is an eCommerce website, or even just subscribing to your newsletter. The key is to make your call to action clear, relevant, and persuasive.

At the end of the day, you want your website visitors to interact with you, and not just leave without taking action!

Make sure you have a clear and noticeable call to action on every page, so you don’t miss out on any potential leads or conversions.

Help Convert More Visitors into Customers

If you want to increase sales leads, and prospects, then you need to make it easy for your website visitors to take the next step. A clear and user-friendly call to action will do just that.

For businesses providing a service, your call to action could be along the lines of “Request a Free Quote” or “Request an Appointment.” Or, if you’re selling a product, it would be an “Add to Cart” button, or buy now,.

As long as your call to action is clear and relevant, it will assist the visitor to take the action you would like them too.

Make Your Website More User-Friendly

Calls to action don’t need to be all about sales and having the website visitor contact you or sign up. They can really assist in making your web site user-friendly and easy to navigate.

If you have a lot of content on your website, you might include calls to actions such as a “Read More” button.  These types of calls to action make it easy for visitors to find the information they’re looking for without getting lost on your website.

So where do you put the Call to action to be most effective.

 Make Them Stand Out

Effective calls to action should be placed at the bottom of each page, as callouts on your homepage, and in your navigation menu.

Make sure your Calls to action are easily identifiable and stand out from the rest of your website content. Using a different colour or font than the rest of your website can help achieve this.

Just don’t put them everywhere

There’s nothing worse than drawing customers attention to a call to action that isn’t relevant to the information they are currently reading on your web site. It is distracting and disengaging.

We see too many calls to action in popup windows that load as soon as you land on a website. Either asking you subscribe to receive their free eBook, or signup to their newsletter to get a discount before they have established any creditability with you.

They are just annoying and in reality, don’t achieve much. Remember, they must be placed where they will have the most impact and entice the site visitor to take the action you want them to take.

Make Them Simple to act on

Your calls to action need to be simple to act on, and obvious about what you want the website visitor to do.

In addition to being simple to act on, they need to be compelling. Rather than just have a submit button, you might say “Get Started Now” which encourages the visitors to take the desired action.

Lastly, don’t forget about the simple calls to action within your webpage content. Adding hyperlinks to text that mentions a service you offer is not only making is easier for your website visitor to find what they are looking for, it also helps with your on-page SEO as we have done below :)
